About private tuition
For those considering private tuition for the first time, or who may not have used the services of Wey Tutors, this is a resume of how we work and the services we offer.
Private tuition provides a student with an expert tutor in the subject they wish to study. This one-to-one contact enables the student to make rapid progress in a way that the class situation rarely can. The student usually feels more free to ask questions or to admit weaknesses, progress is at the rate the student can handle and the tutor can assess immediately what the student’s needs are. It isn’t possible to ‘cover up’ in the many ways that students do in class. Most students find that their self-confidence in the subject is increased by a course of private tuition.
Private tuition can be remedial, in the sense of helping a student with a particular difficulty or to catch up after a period of absence. It can be enabling, allowing a student to study at a faster rate, or at a higher level, or to study a subject not on offer at a school or college. It can be an emergency service for students approaching an examination and needing an intensive revision course or for students who need to retake examinations.

About tutors
The quality of of tuition is, of course, vital. All our tutors are carefully vetted to ensure they can provide the service Wey Tutors aim to supply. We take up references and require tutors working with children to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.
A good tutor must be an expert in his/her particular field, be able to communicate effectively with students and be sympathetic to the students’ needs In the rare event that a tutor and student don’t hit it off then simply let us know and we will arrange another tutor. Some agencies supply lists of tutors but we prefer to select the tutor for a particular assignment from our knowledge of the tutor and the client’s needs. Obviously this takes longer than simply posting a list but we believe that the outcome is more likely to be satisfactory. Most tutors will give a trial lesson, at the usual fee rate, if you are at all concerned about compatability.
All our tutors are familiar with requirements of the National Curriculum and of the various examination boards for the subjects they teach. Some are themselves examiners or have had experience as examiners.
Most tutors will visit your home but some like to tutor at their own home because they have all their books and papers to hand.

How it works
Having decided that a tutor is needed, contact us using the form on the site or telephone and tell us exactly what your requirements are. We will find a suitable tutor and check that he/she is available. You will then receive a call from the tutor and can sort out the details between you - the precise fee, days and times, whether the tutor will come to you, whether you would like a trial lesson. We try to meet your request as soon as possible but it sometimes takes a day or two to contact the tutor.
The most common arrangement is for one or two 1 hour sessions per week. This can last until help is no longer needed or, more commonly, until the examination time. Alternatively some clients prefer to have an intensive period of tuition during holiday periods particularly when the student is boarding. We do not tie clients to minimum contracts, you are free to discontinue tuition at any time.

What does it cost ?
The fees charged by tutors are regulated by Wey Tutors. We try to keep fees at a reasonable level but with the work load that teachers currently have it is difficult to get experienced teachers and this is reflected in the fees we charge. No fee is charged for giving advice on any educational matter. Tutors normally bear their own travel costs unless the distance is exceptional. We always try to arange a tutor within a reasonable distance from the client’s home. The full fee schedule is available here.
